My obsession with understanding

Lisette Pons

I’ve become deeply interested in the how and why of our behaviour. I wanted to know what I am, who we are. My deep empathy for understanding life inevitably led me to what it means to be human, and there I sought to understand. I travelled to the roots of our origins, those of which we still don’t know how to let go of. I sought to understand the keys to our evolution. Is evolution random?

I felt the need to incorporate into my photographs the emotion and silence of my gaze and, in an extremely artisanal way, faced the final phase of my work in the “dark room”.

Photography has taught me to both look and listen. My photographs are the world that surrounds me, sometimes impressions, sometimes meanings.

About listening and words,

about time and life,

about being human,

a portrait of attitudes and needs.

About dignity as a mirror of eternity.
