In consonance with the our philosophy, the prizes awarded by the Fundació Vila Casas have the goal of promoting and disseminate the work of contemporary artists, while serving to increase the holdings of the foundation’s collection.

The prizes in painting, photography and sculpture have been held for twenty years, rotating year to year. The call is sent out annually from one of the various museums of the foundation, depending on the discipline to be awarded that year. In the case of the painting prize, some thirty works are selected from amongst all those presented, and from these finalists the winning work is chosen, which comes to make up part of the collection. The award consists of an economic prize and a solo exhibition for the winning artist.

The exhibition presented here features twenty-seven works as selected for the 2019 Painting Prize. They reflect a plurality of creative languages that together help provide a vision of the varied paths of current painting practice. From this great expressive range a winner has been chosen, Jordi Martoranno, for the work Y-Zone.

Coinciding with the current exhibition, the Museu Can Framis presents the exhibition Living Matter, by the artist Paul Daly, winner of the 2018 Sculpture Prize of the Fundació Vila Casas for his sculpture Rambla (Senescència) [Rambla (Senescence)]. In the Espais Volart, in turn, we present Artist’s Proof, an exhibition by Lídia Masllorens, one of the winners of the 2013 Painting Prize, which can be visited until 15 December 2019.

Ever since they began in 2001, the winners of the painting prizes have been as follows:

Jordi Díaz Alamà (2016), Jordi Lafon / Sílvia Martínez / Lídia Masllorens (2013), Jordi Isern (2010), Joaquim Chancho (2007), Gregori Iglesias / Rómulo Royo (2005), Àngels Marcos / Víctor Pérez-Porro (2003), Nacho Amor / Francesc Ruestes (2001).
