As a photographer, Jordi Belver has two great passions. On the one hand, there is architecture, what it implies for the articulation of space, for the light and shadows it gives rise to. On the other there are artists themselves, as Belver explores the question of how to express the personality of an artist there behind the photographed image, articulated in the artist’s thought, environment and experience. In this exhibition we focus primarily on Belver’s work in portraiture. The project was carried out from 1977 to 2007 together with Daniel Giralt-Miracle, where one interviewed artists while the other studied them photographically.

The photographs presented here have not merely been chosen on the basis of aesthetic criteria. Rather, aspects like how to show the portrayed artist’s personality or what particularly captured the photographer’s attention while shooting have also been taken into consideration. Each photograph was made in the context of the artist in question, watching the creator at work while conversing. The objective of this selection, therefore, is to share with the spectator the complete experience of portraying these artists, the consequent sensations transmitted through images and words.
