Carme Masià graduated in photography and interior design from Escola Eina, in Barcelona. Later she studied graphic design and photography at the School of Visual Arts, New York. She has done various solo and group shows, and has published several books. She is currently active in both artistic and commercial photography, where she works in collaboration with various organizations and on widely divergent projects.
Masià’s photography is characterized by subtle gestures, with a low contrast luminosity that is clear and evident, without being strident. Furthermore, she has extraordinary sensitivity in dealing with the textures of what has been photographed, with special attention to the most fragile materials, such as glass and paper.
With the series Res no és per sempre [Nothing Lasts Forever], Masià evokes the fragility of beautiful things, the fleeting nature of memory and life’s ephemeral quality, with a visual poetry that is profoundly moving. Her language is paused. Considering that nothing is fully random, Masià dialogues with the Japanese artist Masao Yamamoto, who provided pieces with a clearly oriental influence, where we clearly see references to In Praise of Shadows, by Tanizaki.
