Mariona Esteba (Barcelona, 1974) took a degree at the University of Barcelona specialising in restoration-conservation and has a postgraduate diploma in cultural management. In 2001 she began producing artworks, driven by an interest in experimenting with various disciplines such as engraving, lithography, ceramics, photography and even contemporary dance.
Using painting, collage and engraving, Esteba reworked elements from nature and generated artworks in which chance, understood as play, became simply another part of her search for poetic outcomes that reveal her vision of the reality surrounding her. Simultaneously, the spontaneity of her images finds an essential tool in the camera phone, with which she captures everyday experience. Esteba, in dialogue with 21st century society, uses social networks as a space for disseminating this photography.
In this exhibition the artist reflects on the studio as the space most closely tied to her output. Her return to the studio after a period of enlightening experiences becomes a reunion with herself, with memories and lived events, and with objects and materials that will be used in the artistic expression of her being. Esteba sees the studio as a space symbolising her commitment to the job of being an artist, to her creative output and as such, to herself.
This show is an invitation to encounter an intimate and private place freighted with thoughts, reflections and feelings. Furthermore, it is a homage to art, the artist, the studio and the viewer, an act of humility and sincerity in the face of the grandeur of artistic creation and everything that makes it possible.
