Susana Solano began working with minimalist sculpture, though she distanced herself from the self-referential nature of this movement to align more to a poetic and personal world. She was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas in 1988, and the nineties saw a substantial transformation in her work, which evolved towards more sensual organic forms and she incorporated new artistic disciplines such as photography, video and installation. In addition, her worldwide acclaim grew with major exhibitions at museums such as the Whitechapel Art Gallery (London) and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (CA, USA), among others.
