Alioune Bâ is considered to be Mali’s leading photographer, and is currently working in the photographic archive at the Musée National du Mali in addition to holding exhibitions in small villages to collect documentation on the last remaining vestiges of local traditions. His images are imbued with a poetic tenderness and break the hieratic style of studio portraits. His art focuses on the hands and feet of his subjects; parts of the body that are like cartographies, memories of the existence of each human being, which endow us with a unique and incomparable identity.
