Esther Boix i Pons was a painter and teacher. She trained at the Escola d’Arts i Oficis (Llotja) and the Escola Superior de Belles Arts, where she received a very academic education that she would later renounce. At the Escola Superior de Belles Arts she met other figures such as Ricard Creus, Josep Maria Subirachs, Francesc Torres Monsó and Mercè Vallverdú, with whom she founded the Postectura group in the fifties. That same decade she was awarded a scholarship by the Institut Français in Barcelona to go and study in Paris, where she became friends with the artists Maria Girona and Albert Ràfols-Casamada, among others. She set up the arts group Estampa Popular in the sixties, and along with her partner, the poet and painter, Ricard Creus, and other characters from those years, she developed an immense educational work by setting up the Escola d’Expressió L’ARC, where she trained generations of young people. She creates artwork using a wide range of techniques such as oil painting, graphite drawing, Indian ink, collage, tapestry, clay and various types of engraving, most notably linoleum, which she popularised with the Estampa Popular group. Throughout her career she took part in numerous exhibitions such as the ones at Fontana d’Or in Girona in 1994; Fundació Fita, la Casa de Cultura and Museu d’Art de Girona in 2007, and the most recent ones, Esther Boix. Pintures. 1955-1975 held at Galeria Marc Domènech in 2024, and at Fundación Cristino de Vera-Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in 2025.
