“Ricard Duran knows how to focus on the fine details, so that the observer questions themself and reflects on what they are seeing. In this photograph, reminiscent of neorealist cinema, we do not know where the shop is, whether it be in a city or a village. Nevertheless, the most important thing is that Duran shows us the dichotomy of Spanish society at the end of Francoism. Is it a society that wants to hold on to the autarchy denoted by the loaf of bread, the La Española olives and the Cola Cao, or one which reaches to the outside world and modernity through Hollywood cinema?” Eduard Bertran.
