Yago Hortal

"Yago Hortal has previously painted very small artworks in which the painting becomes a three-dimensional object. In contrast, this work is flat and the image it creates seems to vanish following a procedure contrary to that described. As the colour becomes transparent it also lightens, and this dissolving ambiguous image is reminiscent of the aurora borealis. It is an important work in the evolution of Hortal’s painting because it generates a series of works in large format, made over subsequent years, whose images are made by sweeping motions, such as SP37 (2013) and SP105 (2016)".
