"A very fine line is drawing a spiral that seems to be floating above a landscape that evokes a forest path. This spiral shaped line appears many times in the artwork produced during those years. I have never imagined evolution – of human events in general, or of life, or art – as a straight line, rather as the fine line in the painting, that moves on in circles. Moving forward and occasionally backward, in order to move forward once again. In the background of the landscape there is a path disappearing into the mist, the light is diffuse and the sky and land merge into one another. The colour has been reduced to a mixture of browns and ochres, in an attempt to dispense with the accessory in order to focus the attention on what is most essential. I close my eyes and imagine how I can paint it. The spiral of life momentarily suspended above a background landscape. The landscape is blurred, dreamlike, and the line, the line of life, is very fragile". Vicenç Viaplana
