A boat suspended in the air with the word “Weldcon” – the name of a yacht repair company – is the starting point for the Essay on blindness by Santos Montes (Santander, 1949). Curated by Natàlia Chocarro, the exhibition expresses the restlessness of those who are immersed in events that, far from dying out, repeat time and time again. Thus, the tragedy of immigrants on our seas, the cycle of gender violence, or the annihilation of the civilian population at the hands of their executioners, are revealing. Essay on blindness is a journey of silences in which, as Saramago warned us, “This is the stuff we’re made of, half indifference, half malice”.
