With the aim of promoting artists from our permanent collection, Fundació Vila Casas takes another step forward by presenting the artwork by the multidisciplinary artist Mayte Vieta at Museo Lázaro Galdiano. A creator who uses this exhibition to embrace her sculptural and installation beginnings to create a universe split between the tangibility of the earthly world and the sensorial weightlessness of the ethereal one.
The artwork by Mayte Vieta (Blanes, Girona, 1971) poses a constant dialogue with the public through evocatively poetic, oneiric spaces. Dreamy places in which the body escapes the boundaries of space and time in order to penetrate the unfathomable depths of the soul.
Conceived as a look through the Museo Lázaro Galdiano collection, this exhibition seeks to create moments of suspension that allow us to approach reality from an abstract duality, midway between absence and presence, between the ephemeral and the timeless, weight and lightness.
Unreachable and immense, the sea permeates this intervention as a metaphor for what surpasses us in scale. In the sea, the body becomes fragile and exposed, vulnerable. In this way, she expresses human insignificance in the face of an ambivalent nature, both unprotected and imposing.
In this context of existential void, in which the sublimity of nature and its inherent fragility are transformed into an essential question of current thought, Vieta revisits Romanticism to bring it to our present. Thus, the connection to the environment, listening and contemplation articulate her reflection on the bonds, cares and ways of relating to the world.
