On the 50th anniversary of the death of the Escala writer Caterina Albert (27th January 1966), which was in 2016, the Casa de la Paraula in Santa Coloma de Farners hosts the exhibition Solitud, from 14th January to 31st May 2017.
Produced by the Fundació Vila Casas and presented in 2005 at the Museu Can Mario on the centenary of the publication of the novel by Victor Català, Caterina Albert’s pseudonym, and in 2016 at the Museu Palau Solterra, the exhibition focusses on the emotional and life experience of Mila, the main character in the novel, who goes through an inner transformation as a result of the events experienced as a hermit. They are images focussed on the interior space of the hermitage and the chapel of Santa Caterina, a key element in the rise and fall as a woman.
The proposal, commissioned by Cristina Escat, brings together eight black-and-white photographs, handmade copies on baryta paper and mounted on Dibond aluminium bases, 50 x 40 cm, taken by the photographer Pérez, under the direction of Escat; an oil portrait of Caterina Albert by Isidre Riera; the final fragment of the final chapter of the novel, “La davallada” (The fall), and the ISBN programme from Canal Nord “Cent anys de Solitud de Caterina Albert” (One hundred years of solitude of Caterina Albert), broadcast on 26th December 2005, in which you can see many of the images from the exhibition and audio-visual from 2005 with the music “Le Badinage” (Banter) by Jordi Savall, who also features in the film “Tous les matins du monde” (All the mornings in the world) (Alain Corneau, 1991).
There are also two activities in the exhibition, on Caterina Albert’s literary works.
