Salvador Juanpere (Vilaplana, Tarragona, 1953), an artist who embarked on his career in the eighties clearly influenced by minimalist art and arte povera, stated in 2008 that “every construction of a work of creation is the celebration of the journey”. Thus, his work places the focal point on the process of creation. It is a process that involves a recognition and admiration for the past masters and for the artistic tradition he has inherited and that has inspired him throughout this career. Defining himself as an artist “of doing”, he broadens the meaning of what a sculpture is based on a continuation of the precedents and a reflection on the creative process.
The exhibition D’artistes, eines i territori... (On artists, tools and territories...) is divided up into three parts which create a journey through Salvador Juanpere consciousness as an artist who dialogues with the past and with his own practice as a sculptor in order to try to respond to the artistic contemporaneity of our times.
In the first space entitled (LLAVOR)AR, we see works that show the close relationship the artist has with nature, which dates back to when he was very young, and the whole artistic dimension that he has inherited from tradition and that has formed him as a sculptor. In the exhibition’s second space, entitled F(EINA), Juanpere focuses his gaze on elements from his everyday life as an artist – the tools and the workshop – which he transforms into the final work of art. In the third and final space, ES(CULTURA), the works exemplify the two dimensions in artistic practice: manual work and intellectual work.
Exhibition curated by Natàlia Chocarro.
