Opening: November 4
Medusa turned people to stone when they gazed intently into her eyes, just as a photographer captures those who come into the lens of their camera. This exhibition, therefore, speaks of time and of gazes, of past times that remain present for ever and ever. The walls of the Castell de Vila-seca are filled with a gallery of faces that have enriched our country’s culture. Some of them are illustrious figures, people who were once indispensable and are now almost anonymous. Others are key figures to whom we still often turn and who guide us like a lighthouse amidst a sea of uncertainty. Presences which, in one way or another, define us.
Three generations of photographers who have managed to capture — each in the spirit of their own era — a specific moment in our country’s cultural history. Francesc Català-Roca portrays the early post-war years; Leopold Samsó captures the spirit of the 1960s and 1970s; and Lluc Queralt offers today’s perspective. Three eras and three voices that merge here into one. Three perspectives that engage in dialogue with one another here, transcending time, styles and fashions. An exploration of the work of writers, actors, artists and musicians through the sensitive lens of three pairs of eyes behind a camera.
