Estimar és un lloc (i sempre hi ha una cosa que m’ho desvela) (Love is a place, and there is always something that reveals it to me) is the title of the latest exhibition by the artist Mayte Vieta (Blanes, 1971) for the Olot Photography Biennial, held at the Museu de la Garrotxa. This multidisciplinary artist’s work follows the path of the generation from the 1980s which draws upon nature, habitat (understood as an emotional space) and the body as the driving motivation for her work. Large-format photographs which capture (un)localized landscapes that exude emotion and feeling from the past. The sky and earth, the murky waters from the ocean, the darkness of the night or the silence of a timeless landscape intertwine with the verses of a poem by Joan Margarit: Love is a place, and there is always something / that reveals it to me… And, one might ask, what is this ‘something’ that reveals it? Any imperceptible thing, but one that incorporates the depth of a life that has been lived. This exhibition, curated by Natàlia Chocarro, forms part of the new partnership agreement between Olot City Council and Fundació Vila Casas which aims to open up new artistic paths in the field of contemporary art.
