Desire – from the Latin desidium – is the yearning to satisfy a need or an inner appeal to achieve something.
Throughout her extensive career, Mayte Vieta (Blanes, 1971) delves into the world of memories and emotions with a seemingly subtle gesture that reveals itself to be as disturbing as it is attractive.
With Désir (Desire) – a curatorial proposal by Natàlia Chocarro – we trace a visual itinerary related to desire and its multiple and heterogenous artistic manifestations which, in the artist’s work, alternate between installation and photography.
Thus, with a selection of works drawn from different creative periods, the exhibition veils and reveals the most intimate moments of the soul because, after all and following Spinoza’s line of thought, “desire is the true essence of man”, just as it is for the artist from Blanes.
