By looking upwards, we have become intelligent, we have questioned the universe and become aware of the immensity of nature. Mayte Vieta, a visual artist who began her career in art in the late eighties, has also looked upwards driven by a desire for liberation and transcendence. In the contemplation of the starry sky and the infinity of the sea, the artist expresses a complex kind of happiness that contains, in equal parts, feelings of fullness and flight. The feeling of fullness is accompanied by a strange perception of melancholy, a kind of astonishment at the immeasurable scale of nature, that caresses us as much as it embraces us.
As part of the collaboration agreement signed with the Ajuntament de Vila-seca, Fundació Vila Casas presents COSMOS. Mirar en la foscor entre les estrelles (Look into the darkness between the stars) is an original artwork in which the different installations it features have been created ad-hoc by the equipment. Thus, the artist crosses the sea and the clouds, the earth and the moon, in a clearly highly emancipatory voyage of discovery.
