Opening: Thursday 20 April, 7.00 p.m.
Surpassing the formal, material and conceptual horizons of sculpture to embrace alternative understandings to the sculpture canonized by Western historiography is the thematic axis that best defines the installation work by Marc Larré (Barcelona, 1978). He is one of the most eloquent artists in the current questioning of the sculptural discipline and its instrumentalization when it comes to imposing narratives of power.
Larré approaches the concept of heritage through a methodology that aspires to nuance the rigidity, solidity and nobility of the monument based on gestures, traces and imprints of the different bodies that interact with it. The artworks featured in this exhibition, made primarily with clay, latex and plaster – materials historically considered to be abject –, show a heritage that is sensitive to its environment; a heritage that becomes a sensitive plate and therefore registers the uses, contacts and frictions of those who inhabit it.
By laying out a path that goes from the most symbolic architecture to gestures linked to the humblest trace, Mènsula, columna, capitell (Corbel, column and capital) unfolds a series of works that pushes the boundaries of sculpture to also incorporate what is permeable to time and space.
