Painter, sculptor, photographer and poet, Lita Cabellut (Barcelona, 1961), Catalan artist of Romani origin living in Holland, supports the notion of the universality of art, which she appropriates to describe the reality of the human condition. Visibly influenced by artists such as Goya and Francis Bacon, her creative universe drags on a commitment to and concern with human beings. She uses humans as objects which she introduces into her work via a technique in which the stress is on capturing the "livingness" of skin, our most external organ. The marks it bears of the passing of time and experience reveal the rawness, force, character and anxiety of the most emotive moments of existence.
