Pere Noguera (la Bisbal d’Empordà, Girona, 1941) is a manipulator of reality. He plays, combines, interprets and reinterprets his closest surroundings, to make them perceptible, legible and, even, more profound. In the same way that the potter’s hands transform formless clay into a round and defined object, Noguera manipulates reality – apparently clear – to change its appearance and meaning beyond the universally accepted social norms. Each object, designed for a specific use, now takes on a new meaning, and a new raison d’être, to the extent that it makes us doubt its interpretation.
An author with a long career, he has known how to comprehend and give a new voice to the country’s plastic tradition and has been a pioneer in the development of conceptual arts. This year, we join the recognition that many organizations are bestowing on him and welcome to Museu Can Mario de Palafrugell two large installations by Pere Noguera that make us reflect on our perception of the world and make us aware of current issues such as ecology and our connection to our environment. All this from an active artistic practice focused on the object and materiality, but at the same time with a great conceptual significance that, despite its severity, leaves room for fun and irony. These two works that are displayed in Can Mario today, and that make it shed its skin, are seeing the light of day after so many years in the shadows, in order to be part of this meaningful tribute to such a long career.
