Opening: Tuesday 15th September, 7 p.m.
Romà Vallès (Barcelona, 1923–2015) is one of the most representative artists in contemporary Catalan art and one of the precursors of abstract art in Catalonia. He was a pioneer of Catalan informalism and his work evolved over different series connected through chronological periods, each one closely interrelated with his biography.
The exhibition Romà Vallès, the abstract horizon proposes a journey through his abstract legacy, an itinerary covering over sixty years of research and reviews the most significant stages in his intense artistic career. It was a relentless research that demonstrates the conviction, constancy and dedication of a rigorous work that has culminated in incredible results. The selection made for this exhibition follows his vital contribution, especially where the painter expresses a great freedom of approaches. It presents a common thread as the backbone of his whole discourse, in which line and stain, matter and colour are the defining elements of his experimentation, and which suggests both microcosmic and macrocosmic spaces, in gazes that are open to infinite interpretations.
An exhibition curated by Conxita Oliver and Bel Vallès.
