Persistency is a solo show by Enric Ansesa (Girona, 1945) which is on at the Can Framis Museum from 10 February to 26 July 2020. Curated by Toni Álvarez de Arana, the exhibition tracks the development of the output of one of the most outstanding contemporary abstract artists.  The show, which draws from almost fifty years of the artist’s career, delves into the most iconographic aspects of a body of work which, since the mid-1970s, has had a single common denominator; the colour black.  The dualities provided by this colour/non-colour can be observed in his work as darkness and light, sobriety and feeling, or material and drawing, and become his principle aesthetic referent.

Also dots, calligraphy, sutures, and crosses constitute an iconography running through the pieces on show.  This symbology persists as a single aesthetic and theoretical concept, hence the title of the exhibition, becoming a declaration of intent by an artist defined by the art critic and historian Francesc Miralles as “a conceptual artist who paints”.
