Black. Gestures are intuited in the shadows and movements trace unexpected paths in their flight from light. The photographs of Manel Esclusa (Vic, 1953) offer new ways of looking at the city of Barcelona, abandoned to the vagueness and abstraction of darkness. The resulting phantasmagorical pictures allow us to reflect on the mechanisms by which photography masks reality, inviting us to journey through our own interior landscapes. “Pell i ombra”, curated by Glòria Bosch, is structured around works which appeared in the exhibition and book Barcelona, ciutat imaginada (Barcelona, Imagined City) (1988), which won much praise and are currently kept in the Barcelona Photographic Archive, as well as other pieces from the project “Barcelona, pell i ombre” (2010), and with a space devoted to works from the series “La pell efímera” (2009-2015).
