Marga Ximenez (Barcelona, 1950) is a visual artist with an extensive career, mainly in the field of textile art. She began her artistic career in the seventies, after training at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artísticos, La Llotja, in Barcelona, with Josep Grau Garriga, whom she replaced when the artist gave up teaching. Thus began an important teaching career that ended at the turn of this century in order to dedicate herself entirely to her artwork. Throughout these years, she has moved from high-warp tapestry work to textile sculpture and, later on, to interdisciplinary installation.
In her projects, she explores her own identity by developing a series of heteronyms that, at the same time, enable her to diversify and deepen her research into different technical and poetic aspects. The themes that she researches are her interest in the blurred boundaries of the public and private spheres, the politics and thoughts of women, her family history and the establishment of her own and a collective genealogy.
At Can Mario you can see a selection of sculptures and installations dating from 2000 to the present day. This exhibition features works that will surprise visitors with their beauty and the power of meaning they convey, thus making the author one of the most interesting artists in current Catalan art.
Exhibition curated by Elina Norandi.
