Carma Casulá (Barcelona, 1966), winner of the Antoni Vila Casas Photography Prize 2023, presents a photographic project that invites us to explore some of Spain’s nature protection areas and she focuses in particular on the agents that impact upon them, both natural factors and human factors.
The visual artist and photographer proposes a critical reflection on the exploitation of these areas that are declared to be protected, as the urban population seeks a place to escape to, to disconnect and to enjoy freedom in the countryside and natural landscape. Carma Casulá focuses her research on the degradation caused by the large numbers of visitors to these areas, and the strategies employed to prevent such damage. The results of this work are these two series, “Al Natural” and “Al Natural_PRS”, about the Parque Regional del Sureste in the southeastern area of the Community of Madrid, and some selected works from these series feature in this exhibition.
