Curated by Àlex Mitrani, the exhibition is a tribute to the career of Josep Subirà-Puig (Barcelona, 1925) who used wood to create his sculptures replete with spatial rhythms and expressive force. Warriors, still-lifes, masks, birds and cages populate a scene dominated by the light coming in through the physical and volumetric ribs that safeguard a cosmological equilibrium, conjuring up a reasoned and introspective expressivity. Like archaic stringed instruments, Subirà-Puig’s sculptural work juxtaposes rhythms and cadences that are heard beyond the frontiers between the real world and the subconscious.
