Pilar Aymerich (Barcelona, 1943) and Manel Armengol (Barcelona, 1949) feature in the latest “Artist from the Collection” exhibition.
Aymerich received her training in Barcelona, London and Paris. Specialising in photojournalism and portraiture, she began her career working for several publications - Triunfo, Destino, Cambio 16, El País and Fotogramas, amongst others - and she also collaborated on books by Catalan women, such as Mercè Rodoreda and Montserrat Roig. Her early works coincided with the Spanish transition and the proceedings that would lead to democracy, an episode she depicted at its peak. Armengol started out in the world of photography and photojournalism in the nineteen-seventies. In 1977 he was awarded the Press Photography prize for his pictures of the demonstrations in Barcelona in 1976, which were published throughout the world and captured one of the most meaningful moments of the political transition in Spain.
The two creators photographically capture a similar scene during the demonstration for the decriminalization of adultery in 1976, immortalizing the motto "I am also an adulteress".
