Tom Carr (Tarragona, 1956) is an artist who combines sculpture, installation and painting in his pursuit of the dialogue that a work of art may enter into with its surroundings. His work demonstrates to the viewer the importance of the idea or primary essence of form for the creation of an interplay of opposites and dualities in close dialectical association. To this end he pits white against colour, movement against stillness, light against material, round against square, lightness against weight, finite against infinite, and finally interior against exterior, as an illustration of Goethe’s words: “what is inside (the idea) is also outside (the form)”.
