Baldo Pié (Barcelona, 1929-1999) was part of the generation of artists lead by figures such as Carlos Mensa, Joaquim Llucià and Amèlia Riera. Despite being self-taught, his artistic output encompassed several periods, which enabled him to experiment with new creative processes. From his early phase of altarpiece-like materialist reliefs to a lyrical abstraction, the gestural energy of each stage fed into form and structure, leading to a vibrant use of colour. As part of a policy of restoring names from the recent history of contemporary Catalan art to their rightful place, the show is a unique opportunity for discovering the forgotten figure of a painter-poet who infused his work with a harmonious beauty.
