Considered one of the most important abstract artists in Catalonia in the 1950’s, Joan Vilacasas (Sabadell, 1920 – Barcelona, 2007) was a multi-faceted artist who produced paintings on a variety of supports, such as cloth and polystyrene, as well as ceramics, sculptural structures and literature. His output reached its highpoint in the 1950’s with his planimetrías – spatial structures based on lineal networks and rhythms over topographical backgrounds, which brought him wider recognition. Now the Fundació Vila Casas is paying tribute with a retrospective showing the different periods his output covered.
