“Art, medicine and science all have something in common; the permanent confrontation between life and death. It is nothing new. It is a secular theme. A creator observes death, uses it as expressive material in itself or in reference. They exorcise it, besiege it and set traps for it all in an attempt to delay it. Like a doctor? Medicine attacks it head on, confronts it in combat. In a few historic cases the premonition of a creator intuits, points to what, later, medicine isolates and studies.”
This permanent opposition between life and death will be debated in the Art and Medicine round table discussion from two different viewpoints; the artistic and the scientific. Doctors and artists will analyse the relationship between art and medicine, how one complements the other, and how art sometimes foreshadows scientific study.
There will also be the presentation of the book Una Mirada interior. Una Mirada interior?, published by Edicions L'Eixample – a selection of pictures and texts related to the exhibition of the same name on at the Espais Volart until 22 July.
Speakers on the discussion panel and authors of the texts in the book:
Dr. Marius Petit Guinovart. Cardiologist. Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors.
Dr. Miquel Vilardell. Chair of Medicine at the UAB and head of the internal medicine service at the Vall d’Hebron university hospital.
