On Wednesday 13 November at 6.30 pm, the presentation of the book Pintura catalana. Les avantguardes (Catalan Painting. The Avant-Gardes) will take place in the Espais Volart auditorium. It will be given by Dr Joan Maria Minguet, professor of history of contemporary art at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Josep Casamartina.
Pintura catalana. Les avantguardes is part of a series of in-depth books published by Enciclopèdia dealing with the main movements in the Catalan visual arts. The Catalan avant-garde’s contribution to the history of world art includes such greats as Picasso, Miró and Dalí, as well as many other top-flight artists such as Togores, Torres-Garcia and Barradas, who were to attain a high degree of prestige in the decision centres of European and American art.
The book contains texts by the county’s top specialists and, as well as introducing updated knowledge on the most famous painters, makes a claim for many other artists as participators in that great cultural revolution: Garcia Lamolla, Ángeles Santos, Joan Massanet, Àngel Planells, Artur Carbonell and Joan Sandalinas, amongst others. The general introduction and the specific commentary on the one hundred and fifty works, ordered chronologically, enable us to learn about, understand, value and enjoy one of the most brilliant and universally acclaimed periods of Catalan art.
