The First Frog in the Pond is a performative reading developed in parallel with the creative process behind The first flower is born in the air. Drawing on texts by friends that have accompanied the creation of the exhibition, the artist and curator invite us to breathe in together the material that has given rise to and nourished this project. Air, overflow, fascination and contagion are some of the poetic components of this shared atmosphere, which swells joyfully with every new phase of the process.
Anna Irina Russell and blanca arias share, first and foremost, a friendship and, secondly, a practice. Within this magma of affections and intuitions, they are united by a desire to soften the dominant codes of representation, communication and relationship. Whilst Blanca takes the image as her starting point to imagine lesbo-feminist gestures and materialities, proposing softness as a political and poetic strategy for shaping the contours of what is possible, Anna Irina employs play, distortion and participation to reveal the structures that condition the transmission of information, as well as our relationship with that which overflows—and overflows us. At this intersection, poetry and vulnerability emerge as desirable elements of kind and alternative forms of coexistence and survival.
