Mas Gelabert, a historical crossroads in the Empordà

Friday 21, April, 2017 19.30 h - Friday 21, April, 2017
Museu Palau Solterra, Torroella de Montgrí

The existence of Mas Gelabert has been documented since 1352. Its name first appears in title deeds held in the Crown of Aragon Archives. In 1894, Pere Coll i Rigau acquired the property upon his return from Cuba, and carried out a series of investments and improvements to the cultivation of rice – as described by Josep Pla in his study (dedicated to Coll i Rigau): Pere Coll i Rigau and the history of rice in Pals. The property is located in the municipalities of Pals, Torroella de Montgrí and Fontanilles. Its archives date back to 1725 and include a wealth of documents that describe what rural life was like in the last few centuries in the Empordà.

Mr. Baltasar Parera, agricultural engineer.
