As part of the LOOP Festival 2020, Fundació Vila Casas presents at Museu Can Framis the artwork La Liberté raisonnée (2009) by the artist Cristina Lucas, which belongs to Sisita Soldevila’s collection. The piece, alluding to the famous painting by Eugène Delacroix Liberty Leading the People, is a scene which questions the future of liberty.
The artwork by Cristina Lucas (Jaén, 1973) reflects upon time, memory and its limits, in a work that reveals the artist’s commitment to her time. For Lucas art is not solely a medium for seduction, rather it is a commitment; democracy and the mechanisms of power become the creative basis for her work. She analyses the political and economic situation and brings to light the current contradictions between the official histography, real history and the collective memory. In 2009 she was awarded the Ojo Crítico de Artes Plásticas Prize, and in 2014 she received the MAV (Women in the Visual Arts) award.
The artwork will be displayed in the entrance hall at Museu Can Framis, from 10th to 22nd November.
On 18thNovember, at 18 p.m. the artist Cristina Lucas will take part in an online round-table discussion with Carles Guerra, artist and art critic, and Natàlia Chocarro, director of external projects at the Fundació Vila Casas.
