Every year the city of Barcelona selects a contemporary artist to design the poster for the festival. Artists such as Albert Ràfols-Casamada (1981), Antoni Clavé (1996), Antoni Tàpies (2002) and Francesc Artigau (2011) all produced posters for previous years’ festivals. The Can Framis Museum of Contemporary Painting houses works by many artists who have designed posters for the Mercè festival, and to mark the occasion a family visit will view some of the pieces in the museum’s collection relating to the festival posters.
After looking at how they were made and the materials used, the children in the group will design their own Mercè festival posters, inspired by the artistic techniques they encounter in the museum’s galleries.
