On the occasion of the exhibition An ancient fire by Madola at Espais Volart, we offer a guided tour of the cemetery of Arenys de Mar by Joan Miquel Llodrà, art historian, and Madola.
At the top of the Turó de la Pietat, to the west of the town, there is the cemetery of Arenys de Mar. It is a characteristic example of Mediterranean marine cemeteries. Inside there are some sculptural works of remarkable beauty, the work of renowned artists such as Josep Llimona, Venanci Vallmitjana, Fredèric Marès, Cesar Martinell... Salvador Espriu turned it into a literary myth with his poetic work Cementiri de Sinera. In this mythical space, Madola, inspired by the Llibre de Sinera, pays homage to the poet on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. With her ceramics, as the title of the exhibition says, the artist gives form to the word.
The cemetery preserves the memory of people from all walks of life who have made the history of our town: Indians, writers, poets, bankers ... but also ordinary people, gathered in a city of the dead, which we invite you to know the hand of Joan Miquel Llodrà, art historian.

How to get to the cemetery
Address: Camí de la Pietat s/n
By public transport: From Barcelona take the R1 to the Arenys de Mar stop. Trains leave every half hour from Sants, Catalunya, Arc de Triomf and Clot.
We recommend the private vehicle if there are mobility problems since the access to the cemetery on foot from the train station has some slope in the last stretch.
