Espais Volart, Barcelona
Guided tour of the exhibition Josep Maria de Sucre, activist and visionary artist led by Aitor Quiney, co-curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition Josep Maria de Sucre, Activist and Visionary Artist aims to pay tribute to Josep Maria de Sucre by highlighting not only his artistic output but also his decisive role as the spiritual patron of a generation of artists in the immediate post-war period. The exhibition brings together works by around thirty Catalan artists who revived the momentum of the early avant-garde movements, which had been interrupted by the Civil War. In this context, Sucre played a vital role as a bridge between artists associated with the Republican period and the new emerging artists who, thanks to grants from the French Institute to undertake residencies in Paris, were able to reconnect with international artistic movements and with a cosmopolitan form of modernity.
