The mandolin, an instrument originated in Italy at the end of the 17th century, had a sporadic use in classical music of the 18th century and starting in the 19th century disappeared and became an instrument of the popular music, principally in Italy. The Israeli Avi Avital, mandolin virtuoso has dazzled audiences in the worlds leading concert halls and festivals, seems dedicated to bring back the lost brilliance to the instrument. In her début in the Torroella Festival she will perform her own arrangement of the famous Partita for violin No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 interspersing in its five movements works written for the mandolin, one from the beginning of the 18th century and another by a living composer, as well as a transcription from a movement from a suite by the Swiss origin North American composer Erns Bloch.
