Dialogue between Paula Bonet, painter, writer and founder of La Madriguera workshop, and Isabel Cauas, president of the Cultural Corporation Taller 99 in Chile.
La madriguera is a creative space dedicated to visual arts, printmaking and words. It was founded in 2018 by artist Paula Bonet and is located in the center of Barcelona. It drinks from Taller 99 in Santiago de Chile, founded more than sixty years ago by Nemesio Antúnez and Roser Bru. Paula Bonet frequented it in her twenties thanks to a Promoe Scholarship that allowed her to study the fourth year of Fine Arts in Chile.
Taller 99 is a center for experimentation, teaching and dissemination of printmaking techniques, where the most important Chilean artists have passed during its 67 years of life (almost 600 artists), and today it continues to operate with the same spirit with which it was created. Its system of collective work and its work on engraving are unique in the world. One example is Roser Bru, teacher and founder, who belonged to Taller 99 from its beginnings and participated all her life transmitting her creative and generous spirit to the other engravers.
Her task has also been to safeguard the history, memory and identity of engraving, in her permanent work and in the archive that contains more than a thousand historical engravings. Its material heritage represented by its presses, tables, tools, tells the story of the workshop, and at the same time the history of printmaking in Chile.
