To speak of Esther Boix i Pons is to speak of an artist who understood art not only as an aesthetic expression, but also as a form of consciousness, commitment and freedom.
In a historical context marked by the political and cultural repression of the Franco regime, Esther Boix represents a generation of female artists who defended human dignity, culture and freedom of thought through their artistic practice.
But it is also important to highlight another fundamental dimension: her status as a female artist at a time when the cultural world was deeply male-dominated. Her career therefore constitutes a dual act of resistance: as a creator and as a woman.
In this sense, Esther Boix’s social consciousness opens up the possibility of addressing both the context of repression and reflections on female identity from a personal perspective, yet one that is embedded within a broader framework highlighting the difficulties and limitations of being a female artist during the Franco regime.
