A roundtable discussion with artists and experts to reflect on the role of digital arts in the history of art. We will debate authorship challenges, materiality and conservation, and how these practices are transforming the current artistic scene.
Immersive experiences, virtual reality glasses, and generative works have gone from being the exception to be a common-place presence in museums and exhibitions. Despite years of scepticism and lack of recognition, nowadays these practices are no longer an anomaly but rather a fundamental part of the current cultural scene. However, what challenges do these proposals pose for established artistic and creative forms? Digitalization challenges the materiality of the work, its conservation and even the way we perceive it and collect it. Digital arts force us to rethink fundamental concepts such as authorship, originality and the relationship between the spectator and the artwork, questioning the limits established by the history of art. This roundtable discussion will open the debate on these changes and the future of an art that is in constant evolution.
