In the last years of his life, Josep Llorens Artigas (1892–1980), the great ceramicist of the twentieth century, gave up his job as head of the ceramics kilns to take up his pen – or, more precisely, typewriter – to gather together his memories and experiences of a unique life which was slowly beginning to fade. Thus, from the late sixties, the artist started writing his memoirs in the hope of leaving a record of a life lived with intensity between Barcelona, Paris and Gallifa, surrounded by good friends and great artists, such as Dufy, Gargallo, Miró and many more. Llorens Artigas passed away without seeing his completed memoirs, hence his texts remained unpublished. Half a century passed before it was possible to finally recuperate the extensive notes he wrote, and collate them into the present book of memoirs which encapsulate a life dedicated to art.
