Raquel Medina, critic and curator of Bartolozzi. Laudem vitae (1943-2009) believes that Rafael Bartolozzi cultivated an “automatic creativity” from the cross fertilisation of disciplines, supports and materials. His output showed a continual, intensely poetical charge with, at one point in his career, Bartolozzi experimenting with the power of visual poetry, which led to him holding, together with the painter Joan Abelló, the Joan Brossa National Prize for Visual Poetry in the village of Vespellà de Gaià.
Bartolozzi from A to Z is a talk chaired by Raquel Medina, who will look into the textual and literary side of the painter and sculptor. Referring to the work Retorta de las letras y conjuro de las musas, in which the artist drew up a personal pictorial alphabet (also on show at the Espai Volart exhibition), the conference will put Rafael Bartolozzi's poetic-visual legacy into words.
