In 1960 students of the 85th class at the Escuela Superior de Arquitectura asked a selection of artists and architects to donate an original work in order to create an art collection which they could then use to finance an architectural trip around the world. The result, brought together in a collection that today is part of the Historical Archive of the College of Architects of Catalonia, is an extensive compilation of pieces by artists from home and abroad – 144 artists from 22 different countries, including Joan Miró, Modest Cuixart, Antonio Saura, Walter Gropius and Otto Dix. Victòria Combalia, critic and curator of the show, argues that the collection provides a complete narrative of the abstraction of the 1960’s, with all its currents, from Surrealism to Informalism being represented, as well as being the fulfilment of a youthful dream.
