The Palau Solterra Museum of Contemporary Photography is mounting an exhibition of photographic portraits by the Barcelona artist Pilar Aymerich. With a selection of forty portraits of well-known people from Catalan culture, the artist immerses us in a definite period of the recent history of Catalonia, where the opposition at home and in exile was to become a fundamental part of the problematic construction of a democratic Catalonia.
Collaborating with various socio-political publications – the magazines Destino, Cambio 16 and La Call – Aymerich’s work has been a vital witness to such important events as the death of Franco, the 1975 demonstrations for freedom, the amnesty, the Statute of Autonomy and the struggle of workers’ movements, amongst others.
