Juan Eduardo Cirlot (Barcelona, 1916-1973) was a poet, composer, essayist, art theorist and critic who was recognised as one of the most influential creative figures of the 20th century. As a theorist of Symbolism, Surrealism, Abstraction and Informalism, and as an art critic, he was an authority on the movements and trends of the art of the 20th century.
Cirlot i els artistes a l’entorn del Correo de las Artes, 1957-1962 is an exhibition curated by Joan Gil consisting of some 30 pieces by 23 informalist artists produced during the period between 1957 and 1962 when the Correo de las Artes was in print. Coinciding with the centenary of Cirlot’s birth, the show reflects the close ties the critic maintained with some of the informalist artists associated with the publication.
