After working in Portbou, we became interested and intrigued, and then researched the figure of the German philosopher Walter Benjamin and his relationship with the town of Portbou.
In the troubled 1940s, when Spain was governed by Franco and much of Europe was under fascist control, Walter Benjamin was arrested in Portbou, trying to cross from France to Spain, and a series of ill-fated incidents led to his death on 26 September 1940.
This film by Jaume Cases and a group of enthusiasts on the subject, which may be skewed, subjective and definitely modest, does not aim to give a certain view but, by presenting the incidents and interpreting his thought, raise questions in the minds of viewers.
Santi Vancells: ex-Coordinator of the Benjamin Portbou project.
Joan Baró: ex-Doctor at Portbou. Narrator.
